About Me

I was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil back in the early 60’s on a Saturday morning during Carnival. The eldest of two girls.

I am lucky to have been born in a family of musicians, artists, graphic artists and architects, so was exposed to a lot of wonderful visual stuff since young, not to mention the musical side.

My maternal auntie’s studio had an array of inks and other materials which always fascinated me. Even at an early age, I swore I would get to try those one day. I bought my first radiograph when I was 16.

I like to mention my maternal grandpa, a graphic artist and recycling extraordinaire and my maternal grandmother, an absolute legend in the kitchen. It is no surprise I ended up becoming a Chef and running my own food business for many years. I found time to paint and draw throughout motherhood and running the food businesses.

In later years, more precisely in 2010, I decided to take Art more seriously and enrolled full time at The Julian Ashton Art School, in the iconic Rocks Campus in Sydney, steps away from Observatory Hill and The Sydney Harbour Bridge. I have to thank my father and my family for their support through those years.

I received the Thea Proctor Full time Scholarship in my 3rd year and got my Diploma in the 4th year. I managed to spend another year part time because it was really hard leaving. I could just draw everyday, tell no one and be happy, as Kevin Connor once said. He was one of my great inspirations after I saw an exhibition at the AGNSW with hundreds of sketches over several walls. I contacted him and he posed for me in two occasions and after some sketches, the painting Mount Connor came about.

Other influences are too numerous to mention but my all time favourite has to be Dorothea Tanning, and then my auntie, Odilea Toscano, Tarcila Amaral, Alex Flemming, Lucien Freud, Pollack, Bacon, Francis Giacco, Susan O’Doherty, Frida Kahlo, Max Ernst, Otto Dix, Alphonso Dunn, Ed Fairburn, Miles Yoshida to mention a few.

I have entered the Archibald and The Sulman numerous times, The International Woman’s Day local art Comp every year, the Waverley Art Prize a few times, The Doug Moran, The Portia Geash, and many other competitions.

We had a Scholars Group exhibition in 2013. My painting of Eugenia (my second mother) was a finalist at The Waverley Art Prize in 2019 and I will continue to compete. My portrait of Susan O’Doherty won 3rd prize in the International Woman’s Day Local Council Art Prize, many of my paintings exhibited at the Bowen Library in Maroubra, every year since.  Entering is most important for me. Winning or being selected will be a massive bonus in the years to come.

Some of my landscapes can be seen at 112 Glebe Point Road, Glebe, NSW until the 1st of March 2023, as part of a group exhibition.
